Welcome
Welcome to the Haleyville Band Booster Blog. There will be frequent updates, especially regarding Concession Stand information. Visit frequently.
Proud to be a Band Booster
Out of the seven Alabama home games the Haleyville Band Boosters have been scheduled to work at the concession stand, we have sent a full compliment of workers to TWO thus far and the Arkansas (9/24) and Vanderbilt (9/24) game rosters are full with volunteers. We can be very proud of ourselves as we are well on our way to fully staffing all of the games. To really appreciate this effort, this is our first year doing anything like this and the management at Centerplate has already made several positive remarks regarding our commitment and the enthusiasm we display in our Dreamland BBQ stand. We will continue to need to "beat the bushes" for more volunteers at several of the future games but we can all be proud of our accomplishments so far.

From Mr. Tolbert:
"Unfortunately this is one of the worst parts of my job-telling students who I care for dearly that they did or did not reach a particular goal. Although the scores were extremely close I would like to congratulate Leigha Edwards for being the drum major for the 2011-12 Haleyville High School band. Marshall Burrell will be the assistant drum major. Thanks you to both for a job well done."

MPA Success
Congratulations to our Haleyville Symphonic Band.
This evening our Roaring Lion Symphonic Band participated in the Alabama Bandmasters Association MPA (Music Performance Assessment). They scored an outstanding "Superior" overall rating as they performed before a panel of judges at Florence High School.
While there was some trepidation and self-doubts by some of the band members, their performance was challenging and difficult. They rose to the occasion and sounded much more accomplished and skilled than they thought they would. Our band represented Haleyville very well (once again) and as a community we can be proud of their accomplishments.

Updates for 2011
On behalf of all members of the Haleyville Band Boosters we wish all a very Happy New Year.
Updates:
This should be an exciting year for the Band and the boosters as we follow-up on many of the activities that have been started in the recent and remote past.
The Fundraising committee has been developing plans to initiate a "Valentine's Day Dance" in February 2011. This will be discussed in more detail at the next Booster meeting on January 4, 2011.
The Little Caesar’s Pizza kits will be sold this year from January 5, 2011 to January 21, 2011. We should be able to have delivery of the kits in time for Super Bowl XLV to be held on February 6, 2011.
The band is initiating preparation for the Symphonic Season and many band members have been practicing for All-State tryouts as well as other Honor bands to be held in the coming months.
Our Band Director, Mr. Tolbert has been making plans to move his family to the Haleyville area in the coming weeks and they will be looking for a house to rent in the area. Any suggestions can be forwarded directly to him.
There are tentative plans to field a "Pep Band" this year for a few of the home basketball games. More details to follow.
Hope to see a good turnout at the Booster meeting this week at 6:30 pm in the bandroom.

Looking SHARP Band
There were accolades and compliments galore directed toward the Band for their performance at the Dora game Friday night. School Administrators, Board members, parents and other students were found talking about the pride they had for "our" Band. The Band looked good and performed good - we even had a little ambulance excitement thanks to the Color Guard. The Band looked SHARP as they marched onto the field and performed their "Intro" into the stadium with their performance of "Big Red" , which was well received by all and might become a Haleyville tradition at our home games.
Friday was also the introduction of several new Band Booster activities including; our new trailer with the new band logo, which everybody seems to like, the Spirit Store was well managed and a great success, and the introduction of the "gift giveaway" prizes from local merchants looks like it has caught on as well. The Football Programs sold well with many compliments about its' high quality and the addition of the inserts which is adding a little more interest in the game. And let's not forget, this was the proud introduction of our new Band Director, Mr. Reggie Tolbert, to the Haleyville community as well. Great job Mr. T., we know it was not easy. All in all it sure looks like the band program overall is moving in an exciting new direction.

Band Booster Meeting
Tuesday September 7, 2010 at 6:30 pm in the Band Room. An increase to 65 marching band members has added to our responsibility and we are happy to accept the role. It also means we have much business to attend to this month. We will start at 6:30 and try to make the meeting as efficient and expedient as we can without cutting anyone off , but not allowing us to ramble either. Have your committee reports ready and we should have a smooth but productive night. Hope to see as many as possible there.
Band Booster Board will meet at 5:30.
PS. The band did a great job at Tarrant Friday night (quite a few proud parents there)!!!
Update: GREAT attendance at tonight's booster meeting. The meeting lasted over 90 minutes, and we still did not get to everything!! New booster members please be aware that not all meeting last this long. It is the beginning of a new year and there is much work to do. As a board, we will try to get more of the "busywork" done outside of the meetings so the regular meeting will not last so long. Thanks to all that attended and we hope to see you at Friday's game.
Away Game at Tarrant
Call time for the band this Friday, September 3 will be 2:00 pm.
Bus departure will be at 2:30 SHARP.
The school administration is providing THREE large buses for our use to the Tarrant High School Stadium.
Directions to Tarrant can be found by clicking here.
We will need to feed the band this Friday and we will be collecting $4.00 per student to order pizza. We will be eating at the stadium at Tarrant high School while the band is in their under armor. Pizza Hut will be delivering Pizzas at 4:45 to the Tarrant HS Stadium. Beverages will also be provided. After eating dinner they will dress into their uniforms and take their seats around 6:00 pm. We will also find a place near the stadium for the Colorguard, Majorettes and Cheerleaders to change into their uniforms. If you would like your child to have a different lunch you may provide it to them, just let Mr. Tolbert know. Please have your students (and anyone else wishing to eat Pizza) bring the $4.00 to Mr. Tolbert or the Drum Major no later than Thursday so we can have an accurate count of how many pizzas to order.
Chaperones are needed. We would like to have a student to chaperone ratio of no greater than 5:1. That means we need 12-13 chaperones. If you would be willing to help out in that capacity please contact Judy Melton at 269-0413.
BAND MEMBERS: Breakfast this week will be at 7:00 am at First United Methodist Church on 9th Ave.
Photos Needed
We would like to ad current pictures of our band as the year goes by. We already have a link (Band Photos) to some pictures, including last year, but wouldn't it be great to keep an ongoing pictorial diary of the games, events, competitions, Honor Bands and general activities of these talented and hard working young men and women that make up this years' Haleyville Roaring Lion Band. The easiest method is to either copy any pictures you might have to a flash drive, give it to either Mr. Tolbert or a Booster Officer and it will be returned to you. Another method is to copy your pictures to a cd and get it to us.
Looking for pics of:
Band Camp, Pep Rally's, Games, Cookouts, Walk-through, Candid pics around the band room, anything concerning the Band this year. Email any questions or comments here.

Away Game at Winfield
Call time for the band this Friday, August 27 will be 4:30 pm.
Bus departure will be 5:15 SHARP.
This year we will be travelling in THREE buses because the cheerleaders will be travelling with us. Any shoes that were ordered through Tuscaloosa Music will be in by Wednesday so they will be available for the game. The under armor shirts and shorts were ordered last week but as of Monday we have not received confirmation of delivery. The Band Director is working on obtaining more details. In the event that the Under armor is not delivered this week, band members need to wear their white Spirit shirt and white shorts.A note to parents: Please remember that the band will be not allowed to eat while in uniforms, so please provide nourishment after school and expect them to be hungry after the game. Additionally, the band will be playing stand music during the 3rd period and refreshment's will be provided by the hosting team (water and possibly soft drinks as well). Let's hope we have a good turnout to support our teams. If you need directions to Winfield High School, go to the Football Schedule Link in the home page and click on the word "AWAY".
Chaperones for the Winfield game will meet with Chairperson (Judy Melton) at 5:00 in the HHS bandroom
Band "Walk-Through" and Cookout
On Thursday August 26, 2010 at 5:30 the HHS Marching Band will perform parts of their half-time show for parents and any other interested community supporters to view. Then they will regroup and invite parents to join them on the field for the traditional "Walk-Through". Parents will be asked to walk with their students as they go through their routine. It is always alot of fun and afterward we will have snacks, refreshments, hot dogs and hamburgers. We should be eating about 6:00 pm. Hope to see a crowd there.
See You At Bubba Scott Stadium
Construction Day Saturday
This Saturday August 21, 2010 the Booster construction crew is scheduled to meet at 8:00 am in the band room to re-stain the bandstand and other miscellaneous tasks around the band room. All are welcome to chip-in.
"Emergency" Booster membership meeting
On Thursday August 19, 2010 at 6:15 pm we will be having a Booster meeting to have a vote on purchasing a new trailer for the band. It is not really an "emergency" but there is some mild urgency to expedite any decision. The band students will be practicing untill 6:30 anyway so it should be rather painless to attend. Hope to see you there.
FYI: current plans are to have the band march to the staduim after practice at 6:30 and play a fight song or two, then march back to the bandroom for dismissal.

Meet the Lions Monday
On Monday August 16 2010 Haleyville High School will host their annual "Meet The Lions" rally in the HS Gymnasium. Start time is 6:00 pm. Our band will be in rehearsal until around 5:00 to 5:15 pm, then break to changing into their Spirit Shirts and eat something before moving to the Gym. Parents can bring something for their band members to eat, or send money for them to run down to get something close by. It will be great fun and this will be the first public performance of our outstanding young men and women of the Roaring Lion Band.
$5000.00 Donation to Boosters
That's right!! State Senator Roger Bedford and State representative Mike Millican have collaboratively given a check for $5000.00 to the Haleyville Band Boosters for the purpose of purchasing a new Trailer. Rickey Edwards was instrumental in contacting their offices and explaining our "problem" of growth and added that we needed a larger trailer to accommodate our growing numbers. Without a great deal of fanfare and paperwork Mr. Tolbert was presented a check on Monday, August 2, 2010. The Trailer committee is currently looking for a 16 foot or larger trailer that will meet our future needs. Mr. Tolbert has expressed his belief that with the current interest and activity in the band program, Haleyville Bands should exceed 100 members in the next few years.
Here are the email addresses for their offices if you would like to drop them a "Thank You" note:
Senator Roger Bedford: senbedford@aol.com
Representative Mike Millican: mike.millican@alhouse.gov
P.S. Don't forget to mark Thursday, August 26 on your calendar as the day we get to see and hear our Band perform their show for the community at Bubba Scott stadium. Parents will also be invited to "walk-through" the routines with your band member at 5:30 pm, refreshments and food provided.

Band Camp Completed
Congratulations to all the extremely hard working and persevering young men and women that make up the HHS Marching Band for 2010-2011. This may have been among the hottest and most strenuous Band camps in recent memory! According to your band director, "this was the hardest working group of kids I have ever worked with", adding " I have never seen a band come so far in just 5 days". Even after 5 days of withering heat and hard work, band members can be heard talking about the excitement they still have about putting this years' show on the field. Congrats go out to all the parents and boosters that made the picnic a memorable event this year too. GREAT JOB TO ALL.
Football Program Ad Sales Deadline
The sales of ads in our HHS Football Program is one of our biggest fundraisers. We have until August 10 to get all of our information in to the Program Commmittee for inclusion in the 2010-2011 Program. If you know of any businesses or individuals that want to place an ad please call Evelene Faircloth (412-1290 or email: faircloth@centurytel.net) or Gail Burrell (485-3522). You can also get a mesage through by contacting Band Booster President Roy Skaggs at 485-2363 or email: rskaggs001@centurytel.net.
Fruit Donation by Piggly Wiggly
The Piggly Wiggly store located on Hwy 13 has very graciously agreed to donate fruit to the band for the first week of the Band Camp starting next week, It would be nice to stop by to say thanks to them. Any questions can be clarified by the Snack Committee chair, Tabitha E. Added thanks to Tim Goar of Goar's Big Star Supermarket for adding banana's to the fruit donation on Thursday.
